HIV
Some people get flu-like symptoms two to four weeks after exposure, like fever, sore throat, or a rash, but many notice nothing at all. We use a lab antigen/antibody test, which looks for both the virus's proteins and your antibodies, so it can usually detect HIV within about six weeks of exposure. HIV is very manageable with treatment today, and knowing early makes the biggest difference.
Syphilis
Syphilis usually starts as a small, painless sore about three weeks after exposure, though it can show up anywhere from 10 days to 3 months later. Because it doesn't hurt, it's easy to miss, and it heals on its own while the infection keeps going. Syphilis is curable with antibiotics, especially when it's caught early.
Herpes 1 and 2
Herpes is very common, and most people who have it don't know.
When symptoms do appear, it's usually as small blisters or sores 2 to 12 days after exposure, but many people never have an outbreak. Your blood test checks for antibodies to both types: type 1, usually linked to cold sores, and type 2, usually linked to genital herpes. Antibodies can take up to about three months to show up, so if your exposure was recent, ask us whether to retest later. Herpes can't be cured, but it's very manageable.
What's Not Included
This panel doesn't test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, or trich. Those are found in urine.
Add the 3-Test Urine Panel , or choose the Comprehensive STD Panel , which covers chlamydia, gonorrhea, and hepatitis B and C along with everything here.
