About the HSV-1 & HSV-2 Blood Test in Mesa
Worried about exposure but have no symptoms? You don’t need a visible outbreak to get definitive answers at our East Mesa lab. Herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). While HSV-1 typically causes oral cold sores and HSV-2 is generally associated with genital infection, both types can appear in either location. Because herpes often spreads when no symptoms are present, most people carrying the virus are unaware of their status.

Our blood test screens for both HSV-1 and HSV-2 IgG in a single draw, detecting IgG and IgM antibodies that confirm past or current exposure. Because the test reads your immune response rather than active sores, it works even when you have no outbreak. While we don't manage long-term herpes treatment in-house, we can review your results with you, answer your questions about what they mean, and help you understand your next steps. What People Ask Before Walking In
Can I walk in for a herpes test, or do I need an appointment? You can walk right in. Quick Test is a walk-in lab — no appointment, no calling ahead, no scheduling required. We're open Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM. You can also book online if you'd rather lock in a time slot, but you don't have to. Most herpes tests are completed within 15 minutes of walking through our door.
Do I need a doctor's order or insurance to get a herpes test? No to both. As a direct-access laboratory, we let you order your own lab tests without a doctor's referral, prescription, or insurance card. You don't need to see a provider first, and you don't need to explain why you're testing. You pay a flat lab fee at check-in, walk out 15 minutes later, and access your results online
Can I get tested if I've never had any symptoms? Yes — and this is one of the most common reasons people come in. Most people who carry HSV-1 or HSV-2 have no visible symptoms at all, which is why a blood test is the only way to know your status for sure. You don't need a rash, sore, or outbreak to qualify for testing. Walking in for peace of mind is reason enough.
